About the Himalayan Griffon
Himalayan Griffon Vultures are large scavenging birds of prey that play a vital role in ecosystems by feeding on carrion. They are known for their bald heads, strong beaks, and keen eyesight. Vultures have excellent flying abilities, soaring high in the sky as they search for carcasses. They possess specialized digestive systems that allow them to consume decaying meat without getting sick. Vulture populations worldwide have faced significant declines due to factors such as habitat loss, poisoning from ingesting contaminated carcasses, and collisions with infrastructure. Conservation efforts aim to protect vultures and raise awareness about their ecological importance. These efforts include the establishment of vulture-safe zones, captive breeding programs, and bans on harmful veterinary drugs responsible for their decline.
